John & Michele in the Morning

That's us!  John & Michele in the morning.
You can hear us weekdays 6am - 10am on 104.5 WFMB in Springfield.

Now a little more about us...
John Spalding...is a radio veteran.  He's been in the business for over 30 years, and he's still going strong.  John's an avid golfer, a member of the Springfield Bowling Hall of Fame, a fan of the White Sox, and he loves bluegrass music along with the country he plays every day.

Michele MItchell...is originally from St. Louis, so she still has some of that "big city" attitude leftover.  She lives in Springfield with her husband Greg and daughter Kate and loves to do all kinds of crafty things like cardmaking, knitting, sewing, etc.  She also loves to sing...in the car, in the shower, in the studio in the morning, etc.

Super Bowl Performance Run Down
Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert will sing "America the Beautiful" prior to Sunday's game.
Kelly Clarkson will sing the National Anthem marking the second time an "American Idol" winner has handled the duties at the Super Bowl. Jordin Sparks sang the anthem in 2008. Hopefully Clarkson won't flub a line like Christina Aguilera did last year.
Madonna will handle the half-time festivities at Lucas Oil Stadium. She hasn't said much about what her performance will contain, but she did say she'll sing three songs from her vintage catalog plus one new song. Madonna also made one very important promise saying, "There will be no wardrobe malfunctions. I promise."

Roseanne for President?
She'll stumping for the legalization of marijuana, and that will probably get her a few votes. TMZ is reporting that Roseanne Barr has filed the documents to become the Green Party's candidate for president. Barr says she's sick of Democrats and Republicans not working for the best interest of the American people. She'll have a busy schedule, because she's also working on a new sitcom for NBC.

Randy Jackson Retiring One of His Signature Phrases
Over 10 seasons we've gotten to know Randy Jackson's vocabulary as a judge on "American Idol." Randy just wouldn't be Randy if he didn't say "dawg" at least once per show. However, you may not hear 'Are you in it to win it?' much anymore. Jackson says, "I think that one has been retired, man. That's so last season."

"Soul Train" Host Dead
Remember "Soul Train?" It was on after "American Bandstand" on Saturday mornings, and definitely had its own style: gold lame body suits, big afros, and platform shoes. The host of the show, Don Cornelius, has died in an apparent suicide. He was 75 years old. Cornelius was discovered when he was working as a Chicago police officer. Cornelius pulled over a radio personality named Ed Cobb, and Cobb was so impressed with his voice he invited him to his station. From there Cornelius made a demo tape and got hired as a radio announcer.

First Lady Does Push-Ups On "Ellen"
On today's "Ellen Degeneres Show" the first lady proves she's physically fit by doing 25 push-ups in front of the live audience. DeGenere challanged Michelle Obama, however DeGeneres says, "I thought it wouldn't be good to show off the First Lady so I stopped."

Who Stole The Les Miserables Role from Taylor Swift?
Everyone thought Taylor Swift was a lock to play Eponine in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Les Miserables, but we were all wrong. The part has gone to Samantha Banks, who played the role for a year in London. Banks is quite famous overseas as she came in third on a British singing competition "I'd Do Anything." Here's Banks singing "On My Own" in the 25th anniversary performance of Les Mis in London.

Sarah Palin HBO Movie Trailer Out Now
The film hasn't even aired yet, and people are already up in arms about it. "Game Changer," the HBO film about the 2008 presidential campaign of John McCain and Sarah Palin. It's got a great cast: Ed Harris as John McCain and Julianne Moore as Sarah Palin.

Paula And Simon are Still Friends
They cleaned house on "X Factor" yesterday getting rid of the host, Steve Jones, and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul. But Abdul says she isn't taking it personally. In fact she says, "Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine and I've treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at Fox and Fremantle."

Adele Will Make Come Back Performance at the Grammys
She just had the biggest year of her life, but she also had vocal surgery. Now Adele is coming back in a big way. She'll be taking the stage to perform at the Grammys February 12th for the first time since her surgery.

"American Idol" Showing Some Cracks?
For the first time a scripted show has bested "American Idol" in the ratings. It was only for a half hour, but it happened Thursday night when "Big Bang Theory" had 16.13-million viewers vs. the 15.56-million for "Idol." Could season 11 be the season when "Idol" isn't on top anymore? Could be. All I know is I've been watching the show since it came on the air, but the other night I deleted my series recording on the DVR.

"X Factor" Stars Jumping Ship?
There's a shakeup coming for "X Factor." E! News is reporting Nicole Scherzinger will be leaving after just one season. The source says she wants to focus on her music career. Scherzinger is not the only leaving the show. It looks like host Steve Jones will be replaced before the second season airs.
***This just in!*** According to Deadline.com, a Simon Cowell insider says Paula Abdul will be leaving the show as well.

"Idol" Trying to Get The President
"American Idol" has had a lot of great guests on the show, but they've never had a president perform. Not yet, anyway. The producer of "Idol" recently invited Barak Obama to come on the show and perform "Let's Stay Together" with Al Green. So far no word from the White House.

Super Bowl Commercial Preview
Ferris Bueller is back, and he's in a Super Bowl commercial. There was a tease that came out last week, and Monday the full add came out. Make sure you watch until the very end, so you don't miss a little extra.

It looks like Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld are teaming up for a Super Bowl ad for Acura. Why wait for the Super Bowl? Watch it now...

"The Help" Owns the SAG Awards
Could this be a preview of the Oscars? I'm sure the cast of "The Help" hopes so. Sunday at the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards the film won three big awards: Outstanding Lead Actress for Viola Davis, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Octavia Spencer, and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Winners on the TV side included Alec Baldwin, Betty White, "Modern Family," and "Boardwalk Empire."

Fran Drescher Was Abducted By Aliens
I guess this isn't a joke, but it sure sounds like one. Actress Fran Drescher says when she was a teenager she was abducted by aliens. She tells "The Huffington Post" her abductors implanted a chip in her hand. If that wasn't strange enough she says her ex-husband was also abducted and implanted and they have the same scar on their hands to prove it. She says they were programmed to meet.

Liam Neeson #1
"The Grey" took the stop spot at the box office over the weekend with $20-million. It was followed by "Underworld Awakening" with $12.5-million and "One for the Money" with $11.8-million.
