Michele Mitchell

Michele here!  That's my family there including my husband, Greg, and my daughter, Kate.

We live in Springfield where I've been since 1993.  Originally I'm from St. Louis, and that's where most of my family still lives.  Luckily it's not too far away, so we can get together fairly often.

You can hear me Monday - Friday 6-10am on 104.5 WMFB in Springfield.  John & I have the distinction of being Springfield's longest running morning show.

This isn't my only blog.  I also have a Makeup Blog where I (and sometimes you) review cosmetics.  Make sure you check it out and leave your comments.

Some of my favorites
Websites
www.msnbc.com
- I like this site for news
www.people.com - Great place for celebrity news
www.sephora.com - Makeup galore!
www.imdb.com - Can't think of the name of that actor?  This site will have it.
www.qvc.com - Yes, I like to shop QVC.  They have some really cool stuff, I swear.
www.youtube.com - This is where I catch up on things I missed on TV.

iPhone Apps
I love my iPhone.  It's the greatest phone I've ever owned by far (and I've owned a lot of them).  In fact, I admit I probably love my iPhone too much.  I'm always finding new apps, and here are some of the latest I love...
Angry Birds- I'm not much into video games, but this thing is addictive.
Vougue Knitting - I'm a knitter, and this app is great.  You can keep track of unlimited projects and inventory all your needles so you never buy what you don't need.
IMDB - When you just can't think of the actress that starred in that one film, this will keep you from going crazy.
360 - This app allows you to easily take 360 degree panoramic photos and upload them.

It's Spring!

Even though the weather has been a bit unpredictable, I've managed to get a few spring photos of Kate.

I've Come To A Decision About American Idol

When I found out that Simon was leaving Idol last year I thought i'd never watch the show again.  Then when this season started I decided to give it a chance.

Things started well.  In Hollywood and during the audition phase the new judges came off very well.  They were funny, charming, compassionate...it was good.  But I said then that the real test would be when the judges had to be on live TV.  Well I've been watching a few weeks, and I've made my decision about the judges.  I give them a thumbs down.

Don't get me wrong.  I like them all, but I knew it was over when I started fast forwarding after each performance right through the judges portion of the show.  Why?  Because what they say doesn't mean anything when they like everyone.  I'm not saying they should be mean.  I'm not saying that at all.  I'm saying either they won't be honest when I contestant is less than good or they really don't know when a contestant is less than good.  And when you tell every contestant how great they are (whether they are or not), pretty soon your words mean nothing.

I think Randy tries sometimes, but he just doesn't have the verbal ability to say what the people at home are thinking in a succinct and entertaining way.  Not many people have that ability.  I know I couldn't do it.  Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are just too soft-hearted to say what needs to be said to a contestant sometimes.  And by not telling them the truth, I think they're doing them a disservice.

Anyway that's my take on the the whole thing.  On the plus side, now I can watch a 2-hour show in 30 minutes of less!

2011 St. Jude Radiothon

Wow, what an incredible response to this year's Carpenters Local #16 St. Jude Radiothon!  It was our biggest total ever with $228,004.  Actually that total will probably go up in the next few days as more of the money comes in.
That total makes me so happy when I think back to my first radiothon.  It was back probably 1999 at White Oaks Mall, and I had absolutely no idea what I was in for.  I think that year we ended our two day event with around $45,000.  It just makes me so proud to see how our total has grown over the years.
Not only has the total number of dollars grown, but the number of stations has grown too!  Now three of our Neuhoff radio stations are involved, and maybe one of these days we'll add another.  I hope so, because I just don't think enough can be done for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
If you'd like to donate to St. Jude you can do it anytime by clicking here.

Thank you so much for opening your hearts and supporting this wonderful, wonderful cause.

The New American Idol

Alright I admit it.  When Simon left "American Idol" I thought I would never watch again.  WRONG!  I tuned in for the first show of season 10 just to check it out, and now I'm hooked again.

I continue to be stunned at just how good the new judge mix is.  Steven Tyler, while clearly crazy, also seems genuinely excited to be there and he definitely knows what he's talking about.  I thought J-Lo was going to be totally annoying, and she's not...at all.  And the presence of two new judges seems to have amped up Randy's game and his vocabulary.

So far this season I've seen two contestants I really think could win.  One of them was on last night's show in Austin, Texas.  Casey Abrams is his name, and he was the last contestant of the show last night.  Turns out there's plenty of Casey Abrams on Youtube!

The other contestant I think could win is Lauren Alaina from Nashville.  What a natural talent.
