Michele Mitchell

Michele here!  That's my family there including my husband, Greg, and my daughter, Kate.

We live in Springfield where I've been since 1993.  Originally I'm from St. Louis, and that's where most of my family still lives.  Luckily it's not too far away, so we can get together fairly often.

You can hear me Monday - Friday 6-10am on 104.5 WMFB in Springfield.  John & I have the distinction of being Springfield's longest running morning show.

This isn't my only blog.  I also have a Makeup Blog where I (and sometimes you) review cosmetics.  Make sure you check it out and leave your comments (something we can now do with our fancy new website).

Fall Shows Start Soon...

Although summer TV has gotten a little better in the last few years, for the most part it still stinks.  Fall is great, because there is finally something new to watch!  Here are the shows I am looking forward to this fall...

Dexter
You can catch this one on Showtime Sunday nights, and I would have to say it's my favorite show on the tube these days.  Dexter Morgan is the main character, and he happens to be a serial killer.  The amazing thing is you end up rooting for the guy!  This will be season five for "Dexter".  I love this show, because it is never predictable.  Also, any show that can make a serial killer likeable has to be good.  Sunday, September 19th kicks off the fifth season of "Dexter".

Parenthood
Do you remember the movie "Parenthood"?  It starred Steve Martin and an uptight father dealing with the ups and downs of parenthood.  It was directed by Ron Howard, and it's a great movie.  They tried to bring it to TV several years aog, and it flopped.  Now they've done it again, but this time they've done it right.  The cast is great!  Lauren Graham, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, and more.    It's an entertaining and very real look at being a parent whether it's the parent of a two-year-old or the parent of an adult.  Parenthood's second season debuts on NBC Tuesday, September 14th.  Click here to see last season's episodes.

Survivor
Honestly if it weren't for my husband I would probably never watch this show.  But every season I'm so glad I did!   This season on "Survivor" they are in Nicaragua.  It's the old people (over 40) against the young people (under 30) which automatically makes things interesting.  Also this season they are changing things up regarding the Immunity Idol.  Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson is one of the cast members this season.  This is one of those shows you must watch the entire season, otherwise it's pointless.  You can see it on CBS starting 9/15.  (It's been moved from Thursday to Wednesday night.)

Glee
Just pure fun!  I can't wait to hear the music!  The second season premieres Tuesday, September 21st on FOX.

Desperate Housewives
I've always liked this show.  I supposed I could live without it, but I don't plan to stop watching any time soon.  The new season will include some new cast members: Brian Austin Green and Vanessa Williams.  It's on ABC Sunday, September 26th.  This is will be the 7th season.  Wow.

My Betty White Tribute
Betty White is one of the hottest women in the business these days, but that's not why I'm doing this.  I've loved Betty White for a long, long time.

I'm not sure which of her characters is my favorite.  Of course she's great as Rose in "The Golden Girls", but I also love her as Sue Ann on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show".  And remember she used to be on "Mama's Family"?  She played Eunice's snobby sister...hilarious.  Now I watch her on "Hot in Cleveland", and of course she is just great.

Enjoy these Betty White moments...

Harry Potter Mania
Yes, I am a Potterhead.  I admit it.  I love the Harry Potter books, and I love the movies too.  Naturally I'm looking forward to the last two flicks in the series.  The first of the two comes out in November, and slowly but surely we're getting more movie trailers and photos from the film.

Here are the latest photos: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0926084/mediaindex
And here is the trailer...it's going to be so good!

Pet Peeves

I have a number of pet peeves (as most people do).  People who say "any-hoo" instead of "anyhow", those lame, overused motivational phrases like "bring your A game" and "think outside the box".  But my biggest pet peeve by far is when people misuse the word "literally".  It drives me crazy!  If you feel the same way, you'd better not watch this...

Back From Minnesota
I love Minnesota!  That's what I've decided after our vacation there last week.  Why?
1. They have the Mall of America.  Nuff said.
2. Everyone is so nice and helpful.
3. There is not tax on clothing purchases.  Yep, that's what I said.  NO TAX on clothing purchases!!!

I think we should all just pack up and move there right now.  Seriously though, it is a nice state.  The drive there was long but easy.  We took the route through Iowa where the amount of corn is just mind boggling.  I thought Illinois had a lot of corn, but it's not even close to Iowa.

Some tips for you if you decided to visit the Mall of America...
- Go during the week.  It's much less busy than on the weekends.
- Get there before the mall officially opens at 10am if you're going to Nickelodeon Universe.  The lines are really short for all the rides until it picks up about Noon.
- Go on Toddler Tuesdays.  Kids eat free at a whole bunch of restaurants, plus you get coupons for several of the stores in the mall.
- The aquarium is definitely worth seeing, but don't bother with the behind the scenes tour unless your kids are older (say 7 and older.)

Nickelodeon Universe is my kind of amusement park.  It's air conditioned, it's relatively small, it's super clean, you don't have to wear sunscreen because it's indoors, and there are no bugs!  What's not to love?
