"Overnight Joe" Muench's Cherry Pie
It’s just the best darn pie on earth…one of the many GREAT perks of marrying Julianne LOL! It’s a family recipe handed down for literally generations through the women on Julianne’s mom’s side of the family. - Joe
Pie Shell:
Single Crust:
1 cup & 2 tablespoons flour
½ teaspoon salt
7 tablespoons Butter Crisco
2 tablespoons & 1 teaspoon cold water
Double Crust:
2 ¼ cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
¾ cup and two tablespoons Butter Crisco
1/3 cup cold water
Mix flour and salt – cut in Butter Crisco with pastry blender until mixture resembles peas. Add water and mix well. Roll out.
Pie Filling:
2 cups sugar
½ cup flour
½ teaspoon cinnamon
2 cans tart cherries
½ teaspoon almond extract
2 & 2/3 tablespoons butter
Combine sugar, flour, cherries, and cinnamon. Cook until it boils and is thick (stir constantly). Stir in almond extract. Pour mixture into an unbaked pie shell and put on top crust. Make slits. Put melted butter, cinnamon and sugar on the top crust for a pretty and tasty finish. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-35 minutes. It’s done when cherry juice bubbles out and the bubbles don’t burst.
