It's Great to Skate: Saturday at the Nelson Center 10am - 11:30am. Figure and hockey skaters will demonstrate their skills, and you can take part in a 20-minute skating lesson then try them out in the free public skate from 11:30am - 1:30pm. Register in advance at 652-5226.
Prom Dress Sale: Sunday at Riverton High School in the auditorium from 2:30pm - 5pm. Admission is $3 per person, and proceeds go to the 2013 after prom.
Charity Breakfast for UCP: Sunday 8am - Noon at the KC Hall at Iles & Meadowbrook in Springfield. Buffet style breakfast will include scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, bacon, mini corndogs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, waffles, fruit, doughnuts, pastries, juice, coffee, milk, and tea. Adults $8, kids $5. Children 5 and under eat free. Proceeds benefit United Cerebral Palsey.

Award Season in Full Swing with the Critics Choice Awards
Thursday the Oscar nominations were announced, and on the heels of that the 18th Annual Critics Choice Awards were handed out
. "Argo" won Best Picture and Best Director for Ben Affleck. Jessica Chastain picked up a Best Actress award for her role in "Zero Dark Thirty" and Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in "Lincoln."

Golden Globes are Sunday
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the 70th Golden Globe Awards Sunday night from the Beverly Hilton Hotel on NBC. "Lincoln" is the leading nominee with seven. Actress Jodie Foster will receive the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
Britney Spears Quitting "X Factor"
People.com is reporting Britney Spears is leaving "X Factor" after one season. They cite sources who say Spears wants to concentrate on her music. There's been no official word from the show or Spears about her future with the show.
ABC Considering a Star Wars Live-Action Series
A Star Wars TV series? Maybe. According to EW.com it's been sitting on a shelf for years, but now that Disney is acquiring Lucasfilm, ABC is taking a look. Paul Lee, ABC entertainment president says, "We'd love to do something with Lucasfilm, we're not sure what yet."
