Dave Marsh

Hi, I'm Dave Marsh-Program Director and host of "The Ride" home weekday afternoons 3-7p on 104.5 WFMB.

Here's just a little bit about me.  I grew up in a tiny little town in Central Wisconsin.  Got my degree in Broadcast Journalism at UW-River Falls and have been doing radio in some way shape or form since 1977.  I've lived in a variety of locations including Colorado Springs, Lincoln, NE and near Madison, WI.  I love radio as a career and the contact we have with the artists.
Hobbies include:  Fishing, motorcycles (when I can borrow one), outdoor activities, gardening, landscaping and yard work.
Musical choices:  Everything from George Strait to Pink Floyd.  Love most kinds of music.
TV:  24, Fringe, House, SciFi-Star Trek and a steady diet of NatGeo, History, Discovery and Science Channels
Sports:  Packers, Brewers, Bucks--but I have a healthy respect for the Cardinals

I love hearing from our wayward listeners on line at wfmb.com.  Shoot me an email and let me know where you are.

First News of the New Year

Second That Emotion: Tim McGraw is jammed this week ... in more ways than one. McGraw announced the Emotional Traffic Tour with Luke Bryan and the Band Perry (tickets available beginning Jan. 15) and will appear on five major TV shows in support of Country Strong (opening nationwide Friday). The Late Show With David Letterman (1/4), Good Morning America (1/5), Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (1/5), Chelsea Lately (1/6) and the Martha Stewart Show (1/7) are all on the schedule. McGraw will also deliver The Journey To Super Bowl XLV, an opening tease to the big event's pregame show on FOX-TV Feb. 6. Full details here.

» Guitars, Cadillacs, Hillbilly Music: Thanks to Alan Jackson, Zac Brown is now seated in the lap of 1960s luxury. At last week's Zac Brown Band Nashville show (12/29), Jackson gifted him a vintage 1966 Cadillac Eldorado convertible as a thank-you for Jackson's guest spot on the band's latest No. 1 hit "As She's Walking Away." "It was an honor to be on his record," Jackson said. "I think Zac is one of the coolest new talents to come along, and he's a Georgia boy like me." Brown replied, "I will pay it forward. What an amazing night, amazing friend [and] amazing car." Jackson joined the band for a performance of the song during the sold-out Bridgestone Arena concert. Full coverage here.

» Long Way To The Top: Finalists for the 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards' Top New Solo Vocalist are Eric Church, Easton Corbin and Randy Houser. For New Vocal Duo Or Group, it's the Band Perry, the JaneDear Girls and Steel Magnolia. Voting opens at VoteACM.com Jan. 27 and runs through Feb. 24. The winner in each category will compete for Top New Artist (also fan-voted, beginning March 11). The Top New Artist will be awarded during the CBS-TV telecast airing live from Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena April 3 at 8pm ET.

» One Night At A Time: Last year's George Strait tour with Reba and Lee Ann Womack led country artists at No. 14, grossing $41.6 million on Pollstar's all-genre 2010 Top 50 North American Tours ranking. Brad Paisley (No. 15, $40.7m), Tim McGraw (No. 16, $39.1m), Carrie Underwood (No. 18, $38.3m), Taylor Swift (No. 19, $34.2m), Rascal Flatts (No. 22, $28.4m), Brooks & Dunn (No. 27, $25.7m), Toby Keith (No. 28, $25.5m) and Sugarland (No. 38, $19m) also made the list. Bon Jovi were No. 1 with $108.2m. Complete list here.

» Down In Denton, TX (And Up To Some Good): For one night only, Jennifer Nettles will go solo for a good cause as she's headlining Denton, TX's Murchison Performing Arts Center Jan. 15 for the Attic Community Playground. "[The] Playground is one of my dearest charities," Nettles says. "Art programs within schools continue to be cut. To me, this is a very sad fact ... Music, band, drama ... provided me with outlets of emotional exploration and self expression, and offered me an avenue to develop self-confidence." Proceeds will benefit the Ponder High School Band and the Museum School Of Avondale Estates. Jack Ingram will open. Tickets here.

» Life Note: Best wishes to Shania Twain and Nestlé business executive Frédéric Thiébaud, who rang in New Year's Day by tying the knot just two weeks after announcing their engagement (12/20). "They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends," Twain's manager confirms. "Frédéric has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend, and, over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship," Twain blogs. See the bride and groom on their big day here.
