Michele's Makeup Blog

I love makeup!  And whether you love makeup or not, chances are you wear it at least sometimes.  Don't you want to make sure you're getting the best value for your $$$?  That's what this makeup blog is all about.
I try products and services and give you an honest review.  From drug stores to department stores, I try different brands at different price points to give you the scoop.

A Little About My Perspective...
- Quality is more important than quantity.
- Just because it costs more doesn't mean it's better.
- Multitasking products are a very good thing.
- Have fun...if a look doesn't work a little soap and water makes it all better.

Finally A Smoky Eye Product That Works!

Last year I reviewed a Cover Girl product you've probably seen advertised on TV and in magazines: Smoky Shadow Blast.  Suffice to say, waste of money, I don't recommend it.

Then a few weeks ago when I was shopping on Sephora.com with a gift card I received for Christmas, I saw a new product in the Buxom line of cosmetics.  (Buxom is an offshoot of Bare Minerals and started with their lip plumping lip glosses.)  It's called Waterproof Smoky Eye Sticks, and I'm in love!

I purchased the color called 5" Stiletto, and it's a deep, deep purple.  You can use this product as an eye shadow, an eye liner, or a combination of both.  If you use it as a shadow, you apply with a brush and it blends out very nicely.  Hours later, it still looks great and doesn't crease (unlike the Cover  Girl one).  You can use it as eyeliner, and it really stays put.  I put it to a grueling test during our St. Jude Radiothon.  I wore it as eyeliner both days through hours of crying and being sick.  Amazingly, when I got home for the night the eyeliner was still there!  That's what really sold me.

The end of the product pops off and reveals a built in sharpener if you want more of a point on the product.  It comes in 8 colors and runs $18.  Now I know it's tempting to look at that price and compare it to the Cover Girl product for $9 and think "why pay twice as much?"  Well in this case, there's one big reason.  The Buxom product works.

There's only one downside to this product.  It's only available at Sephora.com or in Sephora stores.  It's not even available on the Base Minerals website.  Maybe someday.
