2012 a Record Year for Digital Downloads and Vinyl
SoundScan has released it's 2012 report, and it was another good year for Adele's "21." It was the best selling album for the second year in a row and the first to do that since 1983 and 1984 with Michael Jackson's "Thriller." Digital music buying was up with a record 1.34 billion tracks sold. Number one on that list was Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know." It was also a record year for vinyl with 4.6 million vinyl albums sold. That's the most in SoundScan history.
Glenn Beck Claims He Tried to Buy Al Gore's TV Network
And the story just keeps getting more and more interesting. Wednesday it was announced that Al Jazeera had purchased the Current TV network from Al Gore and his business partners. Then the "Wall Street Journal" reported conservative talk show host Glenn Beck tried to buy the network last year. The paper says the offer was rejected because of their different viewpoints. Beck says Gore's choice of Al Jazeera over him "tells you that he is more ideologically aligned with Al Jazeera than an American broadcaster who believes in America."
Dying Fan Gets Advance Screening of "Star Trek: Into Darkness"
"Star Trek: Into Darkness" was supposed to be out in 2012, but it got pushed back to May of this year. Unfortunately for one fan diagnosed with a non-treatable form of cancer that wasn't going to work. So Dan's friends posted his story online trying to get him an advance screening of the film. Director J.J. Abrams made the dream come true. Dan's wife posted some comments about the experience saying, "It was truly amazing that a filmmaker so secretive as J.J. Abrams was kind enough to show this to us. It is also so wonderful for his friends & his family to finally hear some good news from us, they know how important film is to Daniel & could not think of a better way to please him. So this gesture has brought a lot of smiles all around.
A "Three Men & A Baby" Sequel? Really?
I admit it, I love "Three Men & a Baby." If it's on, I usually watch it. Wouldn't it be great to get Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg back together again? It just might happen. Selleck talked about it on "The Talk" Thursday. He said he'd spoken with Danson and Guttenberg and said, "We'd love to get back together if they've got a good idea." A Disney spokesman said the project is in early development. While we're waiting, here's a clip from the original film.

Former "American Idol" contestant Adam Lambert raised a few eyebrows over the weekend when he sent out a series of tweets slamming the movie "Les Miserables." Now Russel Crowe, who plays Javert in the movie, came to the film's defense tweeting, "I don't disagree with Adam, sure it could have been sweetened,Hooper wanted it raw and real, that's how it is"
Bee Species Named After "Big Bang Theory" Catch Phrase
If you watch "Big Bang Theory" you know of Sheldon's favorite catch phrase - Bazinga! Now a biologist in Brazil has named a species of bee after the catch phrase. Euglossa bazinga is a Brazilian orchid bee, and it was named so because scientists had been fooled due to its similarity to other bee species. An executive producer of "Big Bang Theory" responded to the news saying the show is "always extremely flattered when the science community embraces our show."

A Couple of Old Guys Get Married
Sorry ladies, he's a married man now. Hugh Hefner married Crystal Harris on New Year's Eve at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles. They were supposed to get married back in June, but Harris ended the relationship before they walked down the aisle. I guess the second time's a charm.
Len Goodman, judge on "Dancing with the Stars," married his girlfriend of ten years, Sue Barrett. It was a surprise ceremony in London where the guests thought they were simply attending a lunch until the registrar arrived.
Dick Clark's Gone, Ratings Go Up
He was gone but not forgotten. ABC's New Year's Eve coverage had it's largest audience ever since the primetime edition began in 2000. 13.3-million viewers tuned in compared to 3.8-million for Carson' Daly's party on NBC.
Former "Idol" In Car Crash
Remember Kris Allen? He was the season eight winner of "American Idol," and he probably won't be playing guitar for a while. Allen and his wife were in head-on car cash on New Year's day. Allen wound up with a broken arm, but he had some good news too. He tweeted that he was fine and broke the news that his wife is having a baby.
